Outcome Transparency

I’ve been a part of numerous conversations about transparency — how important it is and will become as consumers take a more active and assertive role in making their own health care decisions; what kinds of outcomes should be shared; and how to make it understandable to the consumer. Yesterday, the Illinois Hospitals Association launched a site which compares all hospitals in a variety of areas: quality care measures (heart attack, pneumonia, surgical care improvement), patient satisfaction, patients served by health conditions and hospital services. It’s easy to use, easy to compare your choice of hospitals, and the information is understandable. All in all, I would say this is a great start for Illinois and the communities they serve.
