5 Questions with Christine Manfrede, Dovetail Creative Director
What inspires you?
Sponging up as much of this big, beautiful world as I can. I’m a travel junky. New cultures, landscapes and experiences make me feel like a kid again. I believe that travel stretches your mind—and that’s always a good thing.
Do you have any tips for aspiring designers?
There are so many. Here are a few:
1) Combine substance with style. Have a reason for every design decision.
2) Connect your work to solving business problems.
3) Learn how to tell a complex story in a clear, concise way.
How do you see the industry moving forward or changing?
Customers expect brands to do good. They reward companies that stand for something and deliver on their promise. Successful brands are meaningful brands with captivating stories to tell. And while storytelling isn’t new, it will continue to evolve.
What do you have to do to get into your creative zone?
When I’m in the office, I have to close down my email, put my phone in my purse and listen to some good music. But I get a lot of my best ideas when I’m not in the office—typically in the shower, taking a walk or unfortunately at 3 in the morning.
What is your favorite thing about Dovetail?
Working with good people that I respect, internally and externally, to do great work. Our team is smart, scrappy, curious, dependable and blissfully ego-free. They inspire me every day.
